In fall 2004, SCCC was awarded the $1.8 million Fiscal Year (FY) 2004 Title III, Part A Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The college receives $365,000 annually. Key measures include:

• Significant increase in the number of students persisting to graduation due to early warning, orientations and mentoring
• Addition of computer-assisted instruction and computer labs
• Faculty teaching/learning styles
• Advising
